Arnold was the eldest of ten children born to John Francis Burkitt and Bertha Emma Green.
He married Leona Trumble in 1954. The couple had three children, Delvin, Derrill and Duane.
Arnold was in service to the Township of Tudor and Cashel for thirty four years as Councillor, Deputy Reeve and Reeve until his passing.
